Visiting and browsing

Given that the location of the fortress is disputed and, as yet, unconfirmed archaeologically, there is absolutely nothing to see for the visitor.

Luckily, the voyager of the interwebs is better served and there are a number of websites detailing work in the vicinity of Zeugma. A useful overview of the sites that comprise Zeugma can be found on the Livius website. None of the recent work has definitively isolated the legionary fortress but there are clear indications of intensive Roman military activity. A good place to start is the MAVORS page on the site, which includes a photo of some military equipment from the At Medani area. This work is also usefully summarised here whilst some armour is illustrated on the University of Western Australia website detailing the rescue excavations in the 1990s.

Additional information for inclusion may be sent to info@legionaryfortresses.info
(please put fortress site name in the subject line; all other emails may be treated as spam and deleted).
